Media idea:

·      A psychotic woman enters a school, killing students and teachers because of her past. The woman (femme fatale) becomes involved with the married detective on the case, so she can’t get caught. The femme fatale doesn’t realize that the detective is actually bad as well...

Title of movie:

·      The past poisons the present

·      The present past

Plot- introduction:

·      As she’s walking into the school, she has flashbacks of her when she was little being bullied and her parents not caring.

·      She is wearing black clothes and a black mask.

·      Walks into a classroom and shoots a kid with sirens, alarms and screaming in background.

·      Title of movie

·      Femme fatale smoking in her house, when the detective shows up at her house as she lives in the area, asking if she has seen anything.

·      She flirts with him and he gives her his number to call ‘in case she sees anything’.

·      The femme fatale finds out that the detective actually has been in jail for homicide ages ago and has changed identity.

·      We see that the femme fatale is actually not mean she’s nice she’s just very troubled from her past and thinks that giving payback to other kids will make her feel better.

·      The introduction ends with the femme fatal in shock and leaves them wanting to watch more.

Media Arts: Short Film Production – Term 02 2013

Pre-Production and Production Reflection/evaluation:

Respond to each of the following dot points (using complete sentences or paragraphs). You should include as much detail as possible in your responses.

Teamwork during Pre-Production:

·      Describe any problems or difficulties your group encountered while developing your plot, concept and characters;

As we were writing the plot, a few problems we had would be when we would come up with a new idea which we thought was really great but then we would relies that it didn’t make sense with some of the other parts of the story, so then we would change the other parts in order to keep the scene we thought would make the movie interesting.

·      Explain whether your group effectively used the pre-production and planning templates to help refine each idea prior to filming;

We spent about 2-3 lessons pre-production and it was something that our group found very helpful when it came to making the film, so that when we were making the film, if we got stuck on what to do or forgot we were able to look back at out pre-production to help us figure out what it is that we had to do next.

·      Describe whether your group made effective use of their time in class during pre-production. (Did each group member; contribute; have set tasks at all times; know their role in the group etc.)

We used the time effectively most of the time but would sometimes get easily get distracted.

·      List some steps your group could (or did) implement to improve in this area;

We could have used our class time a but more effectively and not gotten so distracted, but we did get it done in the right  amount of time.

Teamwork during Production:

·      Discuss how your group used storyboards, shot-lists, prop-lists and a shooting schedule to assist during the filming and decision making process;

Once we had done all the pre-producing we were able to have an idea on what we needed for the props, storyboards, shot lists and shooting schedule, it took us about one lesson to complete this, we broke them up evenly giving something for each person to do. I got the prop list and helped with the shooting schedule.

·      Discuss whether you made effective use of the provided templates (EDL and Sound Design) to assist in the editing and decision making process;

Yes we did use these things effectively and they are used throughout our film.

·      Did your group experience any organisational issues during filming, (i.e. members who were absent or did not contribute; finding suitable times to film; forgetting shot-lists, costumes; not booking equipment etc.) How did you manage or work around these difficulties?

Yes we did, there was one filming lesson when a member was away and therefore we could not film when out film was due that week, so that made it difficult. There was a lesson where Makenzie and Milly were at sport so I couldn’t film without them so we got a little behind with things like this.

·      Did your group complete all shots as detailed in your planning?

Yes we followed the planning as we were shooting so we would include all the necessary things and details from our planning.

Discuss your individual feelings about the rough edit:

·      Are you group satisfied with the final result?

We didn’t think we were going to do very well as our group got a bit behind the other groups but we were surprised with the outcome and thought it was better than what we were expecting.

·      Does the rough edit meet the time requirements for this task? If not, describe why? (i.e did you expect it would be longer? is it incomplete? etc.)

The rough edit we thought turned out pretty good, the time was much longer than we were expecting it to be, but we do still have a lot of editing to do when we get the time to work on it.

·      Does your film require additional scenes, or reshoots?

We may re-shoot one or two things that didn’t turn out as well as we were hoping.

·      Would like to change any aspects of your film?

There are a few things our group will do to change our film around to make it better, a few more effects and cuts.

·      If you could start the project again what would you do differently?

Spend more time on the story and pre-editing as well as organize more after school times to work on it so its not so rushed.

·      Did planning and filming take more or less time than you anticipated? Define why?

No it actually didn’t take as long as I was expecting, to be honest I didn’t think I group was going to finish on time due to absences as well as sport. But we were able to finish all the filming after school and it didn’t take as long as we were expecting and turned out better than we were expecting but there are still a few changes that need to made to the final edit.
